Evangelize – To Preach the Gospel - To convert to Christianity
Evangelism – The winning or revival of personal commitments to Christ - Militant or crusading zeal - a revivalist or a preacher who holds large public services in various cities, now often televised – the bringer of good news -Witnesses
Evangelism 101 – “Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19
Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in His name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.” Luke 24:46-49 (ESV)
Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” (NKJV)
The Great Commission –
Matthew 28:18-20 “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me, therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Mark 16:15 And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
Mark 16:16 "He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
Luke 24:47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached (proclaimed) in His name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem."
The Model - "Evangelism, the Evangelism of the Bible, the Evangelism that Jesus called the church to, never was, and never will be a pick and choose ministry."
"He called ALL His believers to do the works that He did, all the works. As we look at the New Testament church, it is so clear, that we are all, to do it all, in reference to the works.
The modern church has delegated most all of the work to the leadership, and leaders have taken that on and neither modeled, taught or trained the Lord’s people in any of it. They generally teach the minimum, do the least, and almost never go beyond it themselves.
But what did Jesus do in raising up disciples and preparing for His church, what model did He use?
His plan was very simple, yet very profound.
He chose 12 ordinary men, gave them three years of extensive training, which included walking daily with Him, observing all that He did, listening and learning what He taught them, and then going out two by two and doing themselves what they had learned. They were sent out with the Word, in prayer and with the Holy Spirit to reproduce, making disciples unto the Lord."
So, Jesus said, “You go and make disciples.”
"What is your job in bringing forth the Kingdom? It is to go fishing for men, women and children, to preach the kingdom, and to raise up disciples for Christ who will be able to reproduce and go and do the same.
It is to do what Jesus did, what the disciples did, and what the church believers did all along the way, which was to meet the needs of the people before them. To heal the sick, cleans the leaper, cast out demons, raise the dead, to set the captive free from whatever Satan had bound them to.
The people now, just as then, don’t even realize the extent of what the enemy has wrought in their lives. They have the understanding, and are often told, even in the church, that this is the will of God for them, that they are supposed to have this or that problem in life, and so, they keep it and try to bear up under it.
But we see from the life of Jesus on the earth, from what He taught the disciples and told the people, and from scripture itself, that this is not at all true, that He came specifically to set the captives free and undo the works of the devil.
When we look at what Jesus said about the ministry, about His works that we are to do, we will see a very different picture of what we have been looking at in most churches and the church as a whole."
"Scripture clearly teaches that Jesus wants His followers (that’s you and I) to expect miraculous deeds (the healings, the casting out of demons, etc, as they announce the gospel of the Kingdom of God.
The facts are that you must expect them to follow the preaching, the witnessing, etc, or you probably won’t get them. You may not get them anyway like Jesus didn't because of the people's unbelief, but at least you will have been ready, willing and able to bring them forth.
If you don’t have faith for something, and expect it to happen, you rarely get it!
He has promised us that as we go forward in faith, and obedience to proclaim the kingdom, and the gospel of the kingdom, that He will by the power of the Holy Spirit follow that preaching, proclamation, with signs and wonders, His works!
Make Disciples – walk and show new believers how to follow Christ!
Making a disciple is more than just winning them to Jesus; it is the systematic taking of time to help them know the life they are now living. They need to walk with believers, to walk in the way of the church, to be taught the Word and to be learning the how, when, where, what, and why of things.
Jesus did exactly that; He walked with them daily, He taught them, talked to them and explained things to them, did the works Himself in front them, He let them help Him, and then He sent them out to do it themselves without Him. (Key)
Disciples, especially new and young in the Lord disciples, need to learn much like children. You need first to model it for them, to let them see it as well as be taught it. Help them learn it that way first, so that when they step out to do it themselves they are ready, prepared and will do well.
A picture truly is worth a thousand words, and when you do the Works that Jesus did, they will learn so much from just seeing it done. When you, who are just another believer like they are, do the Works that Jesus and the disciples did, they will have faith that they can do it also.
Evangelistic preaching is done specifically to bring the good news of salvation to the lost, and does so in such a way as to actually bring the hearer to a saving knowledge and commitment to Jesus. To be effective it must be Christ centered, delivered by the power of the Holy Spirit as that is what draws people to the Lord. It is a stirring and awakening gift to the unsaved and also to the saved.
The world is lost and they need salvation, without it they will stay lost, and be in that condition forever and ever. They are bound to sin, bound to the devil and bound to be seperated from the Lord without remedy. The only remedy is Jesus and His sacrifice for them, and they must receive Him willingly and by faith to be set free.
They receive faith the same way that we do, by the hearing of the Word. His Word, His name and His presence brings, gives, and builds faith, and it is our (believers) job, our mandate and commission that the Lord gave to every beleiver, to we go out into all the world and win the lost for Him.
Let us, His people, be faithful to go out and win the world, and to do it quickly, as there is no time left to waste. We will all be gone very, very soon, and then it will be too late, too late for us and way to late for them!"
